A 100% Honest TXTUR Leave-in Conditioner Review - TXTUR Hair Care

before and after using txtur leave in conditioner
Before and After Using TXTUR Leave-in Conditioner

As a Curly Girl and wash-n-go fanatic, I LOVE a good leave-in conditioner. Sadly, what I've found over the years is that it's frustratingly hard to find a leave-in that's actually worth the coin. Either it's crazy thick and gunky, too lightweight to make a difference, full of no-no ingredients, or just doesn't live up to the hype. Want to know where TXTUR Leave-in Conditioner fits into these categories? Just keep on reading for a full TXTUR Hair Care Leave-in product review covering my first impressions, product testing process, likes, dislike, and my final verdict.

In the interest of full transparency, you should know that TXTUR sent me this product for testing purposes. But that doesn't mean I'm only going to focus on the positives. I'll be sharing the good, the bad, and the ugly so you can make the best possible decision for your hair.

The TXTUR Hair Care Brand and Leave-in Conditioner First Impressions

TXTUR is an inclusive haircare brand that provides clean, vegan, cruelty-free, naturally-formulated hair products for all textured hair types. What differentiates this brand from the average textured hair care brand is that all of their products feature bond repair technology. From what I can find on the internet, the company officially launched in 2023 - it's brand spanking new.

Now that you know a little about the company, I'm going to walk you through my first impressions of the product. The packaging, the ingredients, the smell, etc.

The Packaging and Product Claims

My very first impression of any product starts with the packaging. So, of course, I noticed that TXTUR's leave-in conditioner comes in a gorgeously designed, sturdy spray bottle. From the writing on the packaging, I noted that this product was supposed to do three main things for people with 2a to 4c hair:

  • Detangle

  • Hydrate

  • Nourish

The product is supposed to leave your hair softer, shinier, more defined, more manageable, and visibly moisturized. It's a lot, right? But since it's what TXTUR Hair Care promises, it's what I expect to experience.

Have a look the packaging for yourself (below)

The Ingredients

I never try a product without reading the ingredients on the back of the packaging. Even as a certified product junkie, I am not going to try something with a formula that my hair or scalp won't agree with. I'm also against products with a laundry list of synthetic, damaging ingredients.

Here are the ingredients on the back of the spray bottle:

There are 27 total ingredients - quite a few.

Though all the ingredients count, the ones listed first are present in higher concentrations than those listed closer to the end.

Here's a quick rundown of the first five ingredients in this product.

  1. Water (Aqua): The product is water-based, which is ideal if you're looking for hydration. The water also helps to distribute the other ingredients throughout the product.

  2. Propylene Glycol: This is a humectant that draws moisture into the hair but can sometimes cause irritation if you have a sensitive scalp. It comes in a synthetic form and a natural form. I can't tell whether they used the natural or synthetic form by looking at the bottle.

  3. Moringa Oleifera Seed Oil: A super-nourishing oil that's got loads of oleic acid for moisture sealing, and vitamins A, E, and C. It's great for moisturizing and strengthening hair.

  4. Chenopodium Quinoa Seed Extract: This natural seed extract has antioxidants, linoleic acid, and essential amino acids. It helps to repair and protect hair from damage.

  5. Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice: Known for its soothing and hydrating properties, it helps to condition and smooth the hair. It's also a potent humectant.

Judging from the first five ingredients, I thought that this product could potentially work for me. I am not ignoring the rest of the ingredient list (I'll cover that later), but the first five ingredients are the most important by far.

The Smell

This leave-in smells like a sweet perfume, and many users say they can't get enough of it. But when I took a whiff, honestly, I was put off by the scent. And it's still not my favorite.

The Consistency

As far as the consistency, TXTUR leave-in conditioner is very lightweight with a consistency almost like water. It doesn't get more lightweight than this in my experience.

I Tested the TXTUR Leave-In Conditioner in 2 Ways

To give this product a fair chance, I wanted to test it two ways, (1) on dirty hair to refresh my wash n' gos, and (2) on clean hair per the packaging instructions. Here's how it went.

Dirty Hair Test

Let me reiterate here that I love wearing my hair in wash n' gos. So, I wanted to see if this leave-in would work as a good wash n' go refresher. To test it out, I would simply spritz the leave-in all over, focusing intently on the areas that need the most moisture and definition. I'd then rake and smooth the product through and finger coil any areas that needed a little extra encouragement. I finished by air-drying my hair.

Clean Hair Test

To test the leave-in on clean hair, I would hop in the shower and wash my hair with my favorite clarifying shampoo (#shamelessad). I'd follow that up with a moisturizing conditioner and then spray some of the leave-in on my damp hair, according to the instructions on the bottle. I raked, smoothed, finger-coiled, and then air-dried.

Timeframe: I used this leave-in for a month on and off on clean and dirty hair.

My Hair Before and After Using TXTUR Bond Repair Leave-in Conditioner [Photos]

Ehem...about the before and after picture...I swear it wasn't dramatized for the purpose of this review. Your girl was out there BAD. But look at that after picture. My curls are defined, hydrated, frizz-free, and shiny. The difference is huge!

Note: These are unedited photos I took before and after using just the leave-in conditioner on dirty hair. Both photos were taken on the same day (different shirt, same day).

What you can't tell from the picture is that my curls are softer than kitty fur - no cap. And I didn't have that coated feeling that I've experienced with other leave-ins. I even used it to lay my edges down. And the best part is that the results lasted for 3 to 4 days on average.

Believe it or not, I got identical results when I used this product on clean hair.

What I Like About TXTUR Leave-in Conditioner

After using this leave-in for exactly 4 weeks, I can confidently say that there's a whole lot to love.

It's Super Lightweight

Not once did my hair ever feel weighed down, gunky, or coated after using this leave-in. And when I'd touch my hair, it didn't feel slimy or oily. A major win.

It's Easy to Use

Most leave-ins are easy to use, and this one is no exception. Here are the instructions from the packaging:

"Shake before use. Generously apply throughout clean, damp hair and comb through. Do not rinse"

It doesn't get easier than that.

Granted, I didn't comb the product through my hair, opting instead for finger combing, smoothing, etc. Also, the pump worked well; I was able to get the product out without a problem.

The Results Last

Whether I used the TXTUR leave-in on clean or dirty hair, I always got several days of frizz-free, defined curls. Before I'd lay down for the night, I'd put on my trusty-dusty satin bonnet, and in the morning, I'd pick out my roots and go. The volume I'd get after a few days was ridiculous (I wish I had taken pictures).

It Detangles Relatively Well

My hair is so short that tangles aren't a huge issue for me. But I do notice that the few tangles I have don't stick around for long when I use this leave-in, even when my hair is looking like a bird's nest. Just know that you need to use quite a bit of product to get some real detangling action.

It Left My Hair Moisturized for Days

You wouldn't know this unless I told you - the hair along my hairline is the driest. I struggle to keep it moisturized, but I don't want to slather it in thick products because they tend to build up. It was nice to find a product that's lightweight but still packs a punch in the moisture department.

Other People Love It

Since the product is still very new, there aren't a ton of reviews for it. But the ones I did see were overwhelmingly positive. Here are the ratings I saw:

  • 4.6 out of 5 on Amazon.

  • 4.6 out of 5 on CVS website.

  • 4.4 out of 5 on Target.

*Remember that these ratings are subject to change.

No Build Up for Me

I saw no buildup at all the entire time I've been testing this product. Nuff said.

What I Don't Like About TXTUR Leave-in Conditioner

Like any other leave-in conditioner, there's good and bad. I'll focus on what I don't particularly like about the leave-in here:

The Scent Could Be Better

When it comes to fragrances, everyone's got their preferences. I personally try to stay away from perfumey smells, and this leave-in smells like a watered-down perfume to me. Nope. I don't like it at all. The good thing, though, is that the scent doesn't linger or bother me after it dries. Thank goodness.

It Contains Some Ingredients I Usually Avoid

As promised, back to the ingredients in this leave-in. Though the formula does contain some really good ingredients, there are a few that I wish weren't in there:

  • Artificial fragrance - I haven't totally boycotted this one, but I prefer products without an artificial fragrance, and that's because you just don't know what's giving off the scent. It could be something irritating or even dangerous.

  • Benzyl alcohol - There are two types of alcohols in hair products - fatty alcohols (good for the hair) and drying alcohols (bad for the hair). Benzyl alcohol falls into the "bad" category and can be drying to the hair. Full disclosure - there's only a tiny bit of it in this formulation, but it's still in there and it nags me a bit.

  • Propylene glycol - This is one of the first five ingredients in the product, and it could cause your hair to become frizzy and prone to breakage when used in high enough concentrations. I did not experience this during the testing process.

The Verdict: Should You Try TXTUR Leave-in Conditioner?

All in all, TXTUR Leave-in Conditioner (#evenmoreshamelessad) is one of the best spray leave-in conditioners I've ever used.

I fully recommend it to anyone who:

  • Has textured hair

  • Has dry hair

  • Needs a quick curl refresh

  • Has trouble detangling

I do not recommend it to anyone who:

  • Absolutely cannot handle perfumey smells.

  • Is actively trying to avoid any of the ingredients in the formula.

This leave-in does everything TXTUR promised it would, and I still use the product today. No matter how dead and ratty my curls look, this leave-in brings them back to life in no time. And I don't even have to wash my hair to get the results I want.

Tips to get the most out of this product:

  • Be extra generous with the product if you want definition.

  • Spritz, style your hair how you want it to lay, then air dry.

  • Use it whenever your hair needs a quick dose of moisture.

Remember that everyone's hair is different; your experience may be different from mine. But the only way to know for sure is to try the product for yourself. You can get it here on Amazon.

So, there you have it - my honest take on the TXTUR leave-in conditioner. I hope you found all the information you were looking for, and I wish you the best with your hair!
